Birth of the Buddha.
The baby Buddha walking on a lotus flower, immediately after being born from his mothers ear. Two Prime Ministers have come to see the miracle.
The silk background on this piece has worn thin over the years. The silk originally had stripes woven into the fabric, and the dark stripes you can see now are the parts where it contained different threads which were more delicate and decayed over time. In these areas, the silk has almost completely worn away and the fabric backing underneath can be seen. In order to preserve the remaining silk, this piece would best be kept under glass and inside a frame.
Includes a single glass stone, some heavy-duty sequins, plus a patterned silk background and backing piece. The border is woven cotton.
This panel was possibly cut from what was once a larger piece. This is common as many older Kalagas are too large to be practical for most people.
