This older piece shows 6 Chinthes (lions) of various different styles and decorations. 4 elephants appear in the corners.
The Chinthe is a mythical half-Lion/half-Dragon that is thought to bring protection and good luck. Statues of Chinthes are used (in pairs) to guard the entrances to most Burmese temples. It is also commonly used as the Lion (Leo) zodiac symbol. It is considered one of the most auspicious animals in Burmese culture and mythology.
Includes a few glass stones, a bit of bead work, very generously-applied metal sequins (no plastic), a red linen border, and a fully-embroidered background.
Excellent design and craftsmanship with lots of fine details and colors.
